The world of work and the way we view life is changing at a pace like we’ve never encountered before. As you reflect on your purpose and to try to solve personal and professional challenges, the organization’s purpose, or your part in it may have altered or even changed radically.
If your purpose has changed, you may need to reprioritize work or developmental initiatives. Or you may need to stop working on some goals and begin anew on others.
A period of disruption is a great time to make a career path correction. By letting go of what’s not working, you can make room for new goals that fit your purpose. Even if your purpose hasn’t changed, it makes no sense to continue working on goals that are soul draining rather than soul satisfying.
When you aren’t doing a job well or you don’t feel right about your role, then you’re probably working outside the scope of your purpose. Unless you have a clearly defined purpose, it is easy to get caught up in doing unproductive tasks. In essence, you remain stuck in place wondering what went wrong.
The exercises contained in this workbook provide multiple opportunities for you to reexamine your purpose and reassess your responses to the forces of disruption. You might think about getting to know your peers better by taking an active role in problem solving and decision-making.
Understanding where you are now and how those in your support system fit into your career plans puts you in possession of useful information that can positively impact your choice of pathways to the future.
